Deputy Head of General Practitioners Committee

Job Overview

The British Medical Association is looking for a Deputy Head of Committee Secretariat to lead the work of our General Practitioners Committee (GPC). This is a full time, one year FTC.

Ensuring that the BMA leads debates on the range of public health, healthcare and workforces’ issues is a critical function of the Member Support Directorate; so too is ensuring that our committees and internal structures work effectively and dynamically.

This will include:

  • advising the chair and other senior committee members about high-profile items of business including work with the Government and NHS England & Improvement
  • leading and managing a high performing team to ensure the successful delivery of committee objectives.
  • researching and drafting briefs and reports for committee members
  • working with committee members and colleagues across the Directorate to develop and implement policy as well as providing strategic advice to committees on issues within their remit.

  To succeed in this role, you will need to:

  • grasp new concepts quickly
  • possess excellent writing and influencing skills and have experience of providing project support.  
  • be able to think quickly and respond to demands in a positive manner.
  • a team player who is keen to join a collaborative environment
  • knowledge and understanding of the issues facing the medical profession, in particular, GPs is desirable.
