Policy Advice and Support Officer

Job Overview

We're looking to recruit a Policy Advice and Support Officer to join our GP Committees team within the National Negotiations & Representation (NNR) function. This team is responsible for supporting committees that represent over 45,000 GPs and over 10,000 GP trainees across the UK. As a team we support these committees in delivering on their aims for the benefit of their members and the work of the team can often be diverse and fast-paced.

The role will support the Deputy Head of GPC for Sessional GPs and GP Trainees Committees in committee management, administration, committee communications and supporting on project and policy work. In this role you will also undertake research, analysis and drafting of written reports on policy issues specific to the committees and the GP profession as a whole.

 

To be successful as Policy Advice and Support Officer you’ll ideally have:

  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive approach to work and problem-solving
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience of handling complex situations requiring tact and discretion
  • Good communication skills with proven ability to build strong relationships with counterparts in the department, stakeholders and senior elected members
  • A team player with the ability to work well autonomously and within a team
  • Good analytical skills with an eye for detail
  • Influencing skills
  • The ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly and undertake research and review of policy issues.
  • Experience of drafting policy reports and briefings and getting to grips with wide range of policy areas
  • Preferably experience of working with committees 
  • Experience of the full MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience of providing project support and working towards deadlines
