About the role

We're looking for an Economic Analysis and Policy Support Team Lead to manage the BMA's economic analysis and policy support team.  You will provide economic advice and support to the Communications & Policy team and more broadly across the association.

If you have an Economist or think tank background and an interest in health policy this could be the opportunity for you. You will work across a range of economic topics alongside supporting policy work across the public health and healthcare function, both yourself and through the team. You will also ensure staff provide effective governance to the Board of Science committee and the Patient Liaison Group.

This is a hybrid role and involves a mix of working at home and from BMA House (min 1 day per week in the office).

As the Economic Analysis and Policy Support Team Lead you will:

  • Line Manage an Economic Analyst and a Senior Policy Advisor (committee secretary to the Board of Science and the Patient Liaison Group)
  • Provide economic support, input and advice across the Association
  • Undertake economic research, fiscal modelling and analysis across a variety of topics to support policy work, lobbying and media
  • Ensure effective governance and secretariat support to two committees

To be successful as the Economic Analysis and Policy Support Team Lead you'll ideally have:

  • A background as an Economist or in an equivalent role (eg in a think tank)
  • Line management experience
  • Ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis and research, including the ability to analyse large datasets and surveys
  • An understanding of fiscal policy and ability to cost policy proposals
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate key information
  • An ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and good relationship building skills
  • Influencing skills
  • An interest and understanding of health policy and the effective governance of committees
