Job Overview

An exciting opportunity to join BMA Scotland’s Member Services team. 

 

We are currently looking for an Employment Adviser to join our Member Services team, to provide expert advice and representation on employment law and contractual issues to BMA members principally in the East of Scotland but with some involvement in casework in other board areas.  The role also involves supporting local committees and negotiations, as well as membership recruitment and retention activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful, supportive team. 

 

The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of employment law; ideally gained through a trade union, human resources or legal background.  They will have confident, effective communication and advocacy skills (both verbal and written), and they will be analytical and well organised.  Knowledge of the NHS in Scotland is desirable, but you will be part of an experienced team who will share their experience and knowledge to help you get used to any unfamiliar areas. 

 

This is a hybrid role, working both from your desk (which could either be at home or in a BMA office) and involves regular, to attend workplace meetings and to represent members.  It also requires attendance at BMA meetings in Edinburgh and other locations.  Applicants should therefore be prepared to travel regularly to and around the East of Scotland, hold a full, valid UK driving licence and be prepared to use their vehicle for work purposes.  Occasional evening/weekend working will may be required. 

 

Ideally, we'd prefer someone who can work full time, but we are happy to consider job share and flexible working (ie part time) applications as well.  

 

Interview date will be 27 October, and the interviews will be in person in the Edinburgh Office.
