Head of Independent Contractors
Job Overview
The British Medical Association is looking for a new Head of Independent Contractors. This demanding role is central to the BMA's ability to deliver benefits to GP partner/contractors in England.
The successful candidate will be:
- Leading on negotiations and associated work whilst managing a team and working closely with the BMA's GP leadership,
- able to demonstrate a track record of understanding complex documentation quickly,
- able to influence internal and external stakeholders,
- meeting tight deadlines under pressure and providing clear strategic thinking.
Whilst detailed knowledge of the GMS contract is a significant benefit, an ability to learn quickly could be acceptable. People management, stakeholder management and strategic planning skills are essential.
The work can vary from week to week but the core of the role is focussed on understanding the issues facing GP partners and translating those issues into clear, realistic aims and then delivering them through negotiations. This will only be possible with the support of an excellent team and good relationships with colleagues from across the BMA. Just as important will be immediate efforts to forge excellent relationships with elected members.
The successful candidate will also be part of the wider management team within the BMA's National Negotiations and Representation area and will be expected to participate and lead on wider projects as appropriate.
