Policy Advice and Research Officer
Job Overview
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the professional association and trade union for doctors and medical students in the UK. It has a prominent and influential position at the very heart of the current debate over the future of healthcare provision. The BMA speaks for doctors at all stages of their careers and is a leading voice on a wide range of professional and political issues affecting medicine and health.
We are recruiting a Policy Advice and Research Officer to join our newly created Healthcare Delivery team. The team works closely with the BMA`s democratic structures to undertake research and analysis, gather evidence, develop policy solutions, advice and guidance and deliver policy change. You will support the team to deliver its work programme which includes NHS service delivery and integration, NHS recovery post-COVID, workforce, digital transformation and a variety of other high-profile health policy issues.
You will provide expert research and data analysis support to the team in developing policy proposals, produce research reports and policy briefings, guidance and other practical support materials and represent the BMA at external meetings and events. Your role will include providing expert policy advice and guidance to a variety of audiences including senior staff, chief officers and members. You will also provide policy support to BMA committees looking at healthcare delivery issues and support the BMA’s media and communications teams to effectively respond to external policy developments.
To succeed in this role you must be able to write clearly and succinctly, and conduct research and analysis. You will need experience of evidence-based policy development, ideally in a health or health-related context. Experience of working on healthcare delivery issues is not essential, however you must be keen to learn and develop expertise in the team’s policy areas. You should be eager to take opportunities to work with members and colleagues from across the BMA and to work flexibly across a range of projects.
Why work for us?
As a BMA employee, you`ll receive:
- Generous annual leave provision, plus 1 company day and public holidays
- Double matching pension contributions up to 12% of salary
- Season ticket loan (up to £10,000) after completion of probationary period
- Additional flexible benefits.
You may be working remotely initially, but we`ll provide all the support you need. If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, please apply through our website. For any queries please email recruitment@bma.org.uk
