About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Regional Support Officer with Trade Union experience to join the BMA London regional team initially on a six-month fixed term contract from the date of appointment.

As we continue our journey to becoming a fighting and organising union, the successful candidates will support the work of the regional team in delivering the ‘Five Pillar’s strategy’ with specific reference to representing members, negotiations, supporting and organising reps, campaigning, and recruitment.

The roles will include supporting BMA Local Negotiating Committees and regional branch of practice committees, as well as individual and collective representation.

The successful candidate will work closely with relevant BMA staff and BMA reps and will have transferrable skills or knowledge which can be applied to negotiating, representing, campaigning, and organising within a trade union.

To be successful as a Regional Support Officer you’ll have:

  • Up to date and in-depth expert knowledge of industrial relations, employment law, HR policies, procedures and good practice
  • Ability to gather and evaluate information and develop strategies for dealing with complex negotiations, cases or campaigns
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with BMA colleagues and members
  • Knowledge of NHS structures and an understanding of the key issues facing the medical profession locally
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage a demanding workload and manage your own diary
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in dealing with varying situations

 

The role is home-based and the successful applicant will be required to travel across the London region in order to carry out the role. As the role is covering the London it is a requirement for the successful applicant to be based in or near London or willing to relocate (at their own expense) in order to attend meetings.
