Special Advisor

Job Overview

This is a key role in supporting the chair of council in their duties as the political head of the BMA in addition to assisting the Association’s chief officers in the delivery of their priorities.

Reporting to the chief of staff and responsible for line managing an external liaison officer, you will draw on your honed political judgement to be a trusted source of strategic counsel on policy and political matters.

Your understanding of current policy and anticipated developments in the NHS and the wider public sector will be key, as will your ability to communicate highly complex information concisely and clearly through written and oral briefings. 

This is a role which works with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the Association's chair of council and chief officers. You will be working with elected members and staff across the BMA. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are a must along with your ability to proactively manage key communications and relationships at a senior level.

To excel in this role you will also have excellent written skills and the ability to draft crisp copy for publication, speeches and presentations. A good understanding of member led organisations and the political landscape in which they operate will help you hit the ground running in this pivotal and rewarding role.
